Thursday, March 12, 2009 A call from a journalist/institutional investor is like getting a pop quiz .. So recently, I've been getting a string of calls from institutional investors or journalists.. Kinda odd.. It's like they all pakat to call me at the same time.. but aih, so stressful, it's like i have to know every single thing about the 30 companies i now cover.. =PHere's the very first quote of me on a newspaper: "Zoe Tan, an analyst at Morningstar Inc. who covers 1-800-Flowers, said that because Fannie May had no debt it was an attractive acquisition target. “It was about synergy,” she said. “Fannie May could just leverage on what 1-800-Flowers already had without adding any additional costs for the company.” Starting even before the acquisition, Fannie May stores--18 of them--reappeared in Chicago, Indianapolis, South Bend and other familiar settings. But Tan feels that the storefront foundation of Fannie May may hinder the company if the economy continues to slump. “Retail storefronts are more capital-intensive,” she said. “When demand is low, you can’t just cut down on inventory that way; you can’t just get rid of storefronts. So there’s not that much [1-800-Flowers] can get out of it in a time like this.” Post a Comment |
